Sockets, Nut Setters & Driver Bits

The driving end of every fastener you install

Every fastener failure that looks like a bad screw is worth checking against the bit first. A rounded recess, a chewed hex head, a stripped drive — these are usually the tool wearing out, not the fastener. Bits are consumables, and treating them as such is one of the cheapest quality improvements available on a site.

What it is used for

Use the right nut setter or bit and your screws go in cleanly. Use a worn one and you ruin the screw heads.

Roofing screws

8 mm magnetic nut setters for hex head self drilling screws.

Board fixing

PH2 bits with a depth stop for consistent drywall work.

Impact drivers

Impact-rated bits that flex instead of shattering.

Bits are consumables

Replace them as soon as the tip starts rounding off.

Overview

We stock magnetic nut setters from 6 mm to 13 mm — with 8 mm covering the bulk of Indian roofing screws — plus Phillips, Pozidriv, Torx and square driver bits in standard and impact-rated grades, in 25 mm, 50 mm and 150 mm lengths.

Because we supply the screws too, we can send bits that actually match what you are driving, rather than a generic assortment where half the sizes are never used.

Strong magnetic retention

Holds the screw square while you position it — the difference between one-handed work at height and dropped fasteners.

Impact-rated grades

S2 and torsion-zone bits absorb the shock of impact drivers instead of shattering, which standard bits will do quickly.

Sizes matched to your screws

We supply the bits for the fasteners you actually order, not a boxed assortment with the useful sizes missing.

Depth-stop options

Adjustable depth-stop nut setters and nose cones for consistent seating on roofing and board work.

Section 1 — Installation

How to use nut setters and driver bits

Two habits account for nearly all bit life: keeping the bit fully seated, and replacing it before it is worn out rather than after.

  1. 1

Match the bit exactly to the recess

PH2 in a PH2 recess, PZ2 in a PZ2 recess. Phillips and Pozidriv look similar and are not interchangeable — using one in the other cams out and destroys both.

  2. 2

Seat the bit fully before applying torque

Push the bit right into the recess, then start driving. Torque applied to a partially seated bit rounds the recess on the first turn.

  3. 3

    Keep the driver in line

Any angle concentrates load on one flank of the recess. Square-on, every time — this matters most with magnetic nut setters where the screw is being held out on the end.

  4. 4

Use impact-rated bits in impact drivers

Standard bits shatter under impact loading. Impact-rated bits have a torsion zone that flexes and absorbs the shock.

  5. 5

Replace at the first sign of rounding

A worn bit does not fail gracefully — it starts damaging every fastener it touches. Inspect the tip regularly and bin it early.

Section 2 — Applications

Sockets & Bits — questions we get asked

What size nut setter do I need for roofing screws?

8 mm covers most Indian hex-head self drilling roofing screws. Larger M6.3 screws with bigger heads may need 10 mm. If you tell us which screws you are ordering, we will send the matching size.

What is the difference between Phillips and Pozidriv?

Pozidriv has four extra shallow ribs between the main slots. It is designed to resist cam-out, so it holds torque far better on long runs. They are not interchangeable — a PH2 bit in a PZ2 recess will slip and round the head.

Why do my driver bits keep breaking in an impact driver?

Almost certainly because they are standard bits. Impact drivers apply rapid torque pulses that shatter hardened bits. Impact-rated bits have a softer torsion zone designed to flex under those pulses.

How long should a driver bit last?

Anywhere from a few hundred to a few thousand screws, depending on material, torque and how square it is kept. The useful rule is to change it at the first sign of tip rounding rather than counting screws.
